Meet William, Swecares communications intern for spring 2026
With a background in Media and Communication Studies and a strong interest in strategic communication, William is gaining hands-on experience in communication during his internship at Swecare. Learn more about him in this interview.
Tell us a Little about yourself.
I’d describe myself as an easy-going and curious person who enjoys trying new things and stepping into new environments. I like learning by doing and figuring things out along the way.
Outside of work and studies, I spend a lot of time with friends and follow football closely. I also work voluntarily as a sports journalist, where I get to develop my writing and cover games. In my free time, I enjoy music and like to keep an active lifestyle by finding things to do rather than staying still.
What are you studying?
I’m currently studying Media and Communication Science at Jönköping University and will complete my degree after my internship at Swecare. Throughout my studies, I’ve developed a strong interest in how communication shapes the way organisations and issues are perceived, particularly in more complex and international contexts.
Last semester, I wrote my bachelor’s thesis as a comparative qualitative content analysis of news reporting in Swedish and American media. The project gave me the opportunity to analyse how the same event can be framed in different ways depending on context, perspective and underlying narratives. It strengthened my interest in strategic communication and how narratives shape public understanding.
What have you been working with recently?
Recently, I’ve been involved in preparing for Swecare’s annual conference, as well as working on the organisation’s annual report. I also conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders during incoming delegations, which gives me insight into different perspectives within the life science sector.
Overall, I’m gaining hands-on experience in communication work across different formats, from content production to stakeholder engagement.
Why did you want to intern at Swecare?
I wanted to intern at Swecare because of its role at the intersection of communication, healthcare and international collaboration. It felt like a unique opportunity to work in a context where communication is used to connect stakeholders across markets and highlight Swedish life science solutions globally.
Given my background in media and communication, I was particularly drawn to how Swecare works strategically with communication to support internationalisation and knowledge exchange within the sector.
Is there a country or area you find particularly interesting?
I’m particularly interested in how different countries approach communication and media, especially how systems and contexts shape the way information is presented and understood. This was also a key focus in my bachelor’s thesis, where I compared news reporting in Swedish and American media.
That experience made me more interested in how perspectives differ across markets and how those differences affect communication and collaboration. Through my internship at Swecare, I’m now getting the opportunity to see how this plays out in an international life science context.
Is there anything you have learned that you did not know prior to your internship at Swecare?
One thing I’ve learned is how central communication is in connecting different stakeholders within the life science sector. Before my internship, I hadn’t fully understood how much coordination and alignment is required when working across organisations, countries and perspectives.
I’ve also gained a better understanding of how Swedish life science solutions are presented in an international context, and how communication is used not only to inform but to build relationships and create opportunities for collaboration at Swecare.
What type of Music do you like to listen to while working or doing something fun, why?
It depends on what I’m doing. When I’m working or need to focus, I prefer calmer music or instrumental tracks since it helps me stay concentrated without distractions.
When I’m doing something more social or just having fun, I usually listen to more upbeat music. For me, music is a way to shift energy depending on the situation, whether it’s to stay focused or to relax.
What would you like to work with in the future?
I’m still exploring exactly where I want to go, but I know that I want to continue working with communication, either within journalism or in an organisational role as a communicator. I’m interested in roles where I can combine writing and analysis, and work with content that helps people understand complex topics.
Overall, I see this as a period where I’m building experience and figuring out which direction suits me best, especially in an international context.
